Can Claude make videos? Not by itself. It can plan them, code them, or direct a video studio. Here are three ways to get a finished video from Claude.
Claude video generation is not built in. Claude cannot make a video on its own. It writes scripts, shot lists, and prompts, and it can code simple motion graphics. To get a finished video with scenes, a voice, and captions, connect a video studio such as Frameloop to Claude through MCP, then ask for the video in the chat.
This guide covers three ways to get a video from Claude: what each one makes, what each one costs you in time, and which one fits your project. Then it walks through the setup with Frameloop, step by step, and ends with the limits.
Claude is built for words, code, and images. That makes it a strong video planner. A finished video needs more than that.
| Claude does this well | A finished video also needs |
|---|---|
| Video ideas, hooks, and outlines |
| Visuals that match from scene to scene |
| A full script, split into scenes | The same character in every scene |
| Shot lists and image prompts | A voiceover in the right language |
| Code for simple animations | Captions, music, and a final MP4 |
The gap is rendering. Claude can describe a scene in detail, but something else has to produce the pixels.
Every method falls into one of three groups. Pick one by what kind of video you need.
| Method | How it works | Best for | Weak spot |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Script in Claude, video in a tool | Claude writes the script and prompts. You paste them into a video tool each time. | One-off videos | You switch tabs, and Claude never sees the result. |
| 2. Claude Code writes the video as code | Claude Code writes a program that renders the video, for example with a tool such as Remotion. | Animated text, charts, and explainers made from shapes | Not made for people, real scenes, or a spoken story. You need to be comfortable with code. |
| 3. A studio connected through MCP | You ask in the chat. Claude calls the studio, which makes, edits, and renders the video. | Repeat videos, series, and batches | Needs a studio account and credits. |
Method one is fine if you make a video now and then. If you want to turn a script into a video without leaving the chat, method three is the one to set up. The rest of this guide covers it.
Claude Code is Anthropic's coding tool for the terminal. It can write and run a small project that draws a video frame by frame. This works well when the video is built from text, charts, logos, and simple shapes. A product changelog or a data story fits.
It is a poor fit for videos with people, places, or a narrated story. The output looks like a slide animation, not a film. You also need Node, a render step on your own computer, and some patience when the code breaks.
If you use Claude Code, you can still use method three. Claude Code can connect to a video studio too. The setup is shown below.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools in other apps. Think of it as a plug. The studio is on one end and Claude is on the other.
For video, it means Claude can do more than suggest. It can check a price, create a project, change a scene, and render the file, all inside your chat. You keep the account and the credits.
Frameloop is an AI studio for Shorts, films, and music videos. It has a remote MCP server, so Claude can create and edit videos in your Frameloop account. Setup takes a few minutes.
Create an API key in Frameloop, under Settings, then API access. Save it as FRAMELOOP_API_KEY. Then run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http frameloop https://frameloop.ai/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $FRAMELOOP_API_KEY"
Run /mcp inside Claude Code to check that Frameloop is connected. Prefer not to do it by hand? Frameloop's MCP page has a prompt you can paste into Claude. It reads the setup guide and connects itself, after asking you once.
The hard part of AI video is not one good clip. It is the third scene, where the hero's face has changed. A single-clip tool rarely solves this.
Frameloop saves a character once and reuses it in every scene and every episode. In the chat, ask Claude to save the character first, then ask for the video. The second prompt above shows the pattern. Our guide to consistent characters goes deeper.

This is a different question, and it gets a lot of searches. Claude reads text and images. At the time of writing, it does not take a video file as input in chat. To work with a video you already have, you can give Claude the transcript or a few still frames, and it can help with the script, the notes, or the cuts you should make.
Frameloop edits the videos it makes: swap a scene, change the music, restyle the captions, or regenerate an image. It does not edit footage you filmed of yourself. For that, use Captions or Descript. For a full timeline, use Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or CapCut.
There are two costs. Claude has its own plan. Frameloop videos use credits from your Frameloop plan. The cost depends on the visuals: animated scenes and premium AI models use more credits than videos made from still images. The pricing page lists what each plan includes.
Some parts are free. Claude can help you plan the video. Frameloop also has free tools for video ideas, YouTube titles, descriptions, and hashtags.
To avoid surprises, ask for the cost first. When you make several videos in one go, set a credit cap in the prompt, for example: "Keep each video under 40 credits." A request that would go over the cap fails instead of spending.
The same server works in ChatGPT, Cursor, and other clients that support remote MCP servers. See the same steps in ChatGPT. Other clients can use an API key. If you write code, the REST API does the same work. See our API guide.
Add the Frameloop MCP server to Claude, ask for a video, and approve the cost.
